He was not even the treating doctor in this case.  Just casualty mo of the day. The father of the girl who had died 2 months previously of amebic encephalitis came and asked to see superintendent. He was in a meeting so the man was asked to wait. This doctor was seeing another patient when the man attacked his head with a hacksaw.

If you go on Instagram there are "intellectual" comments going "Nyaikarikan avilla ennalum achante vedhana manasilakkam" and "Ningade kutti anelo". It's incredible to me that these people don't consider said doctor as someone's son or some kid's dad. They dehumanise us so much that they can't see the doctor having a family or emotions or life worth living without being stabbed.

Same story, different day. Now some strikes will take place, OP services will be stopped temporarily, then govt will promise to protect us. And then few days later the whole cycle will repeat again. Nothing will ever change for us Doctors in this country. Looking into every possible option to leave this place as soon as I can.

Literate Kerala , Gods Own Country , low infant mortality rate ( better than USA )  - And guess how people treat their doctor. I just wish that all doctors working in the state go on indefinite strike till the culprit gets death sentence.

The last few days due to the Palakkad incident, the media is portraying doctors as a whole as cruel and negligent. It's like the media was inciting violence against doctors for the last 2 or 3 days(If it was with proof I may have been all for it). Who is to say that this may have been the final push that man needed to slash Dr. Vipin. Idk why the general public too is very much against the doctors while they should have been against the Govt, the authorities, etc. India is a circus now and it seems Kerala is not an exception.

Not justifiable in any case. However The father needs mental health support immediately. Why dont we have grief support groups in Kerala? There needs to be some program to check on people after some traumatic event man. Indians are known for being “community “ oriented , but ive never seen this in action. Its just sad.

Thank the god when patient recovers and attack the doctor if the same dies. If there's one profession you don't want to be in India, it's a medical doctor and if you are so determined to be one, India is definitely not the place for that. People are so misinformed with this profession that they think anything and everything a doctor does/recommends is bad for them. They never see the hard work, dedication, continuous 36 hours of hectic work,endless years of exams,vivas,theses,entrance exams and many more that one goes through to be in a position like that.I'm not defending every doctor out there,like any profession there is the good,the bad and the ugly in it. If there is actual proven medical negligence, then there should be sufficient punishment for that doctor but that's not the case here. What more do you expect from a doctor in a disease with a fatality rate of above 95%?

There are so many medical influencers and content creators in Kerala it’s high time they start speaking up about the violence against doctors. People need to know how overworked, underpaid, and inhumanely treated doctors are, and the toxic environment they’re forced to work in. More awareness has to be created among the general public about what doctors actually go through.

In Kerala, nursing is a respected job. There are many good nursing colleges, and it also gives chances to work abroad, so many people choose it.

Modern nursing as a profession was shaped by figures like Florence Nightingale, who was deeply influenced by her Christian faith. Many hospitals and nursing schools were originally established by churches and Christian missionaries, so early entrants into the profession often came from Christian communities.  This is why people still refer to nurses as \`Sister'. Also Kerala being a progressive society it is not seen as taboo for women to be working even in villages. In recent years the opportunities for trained nurses overseas has encouraged many more to take up the profession.

Me being a med student , I can give you some reasons

1) It's like affordable and good earnings 
2) more demand for jobs overseas 
3) Some follow their peers into it 

Although there are many nurses from Kerala much of them study from other states due to lack of college I'm their state ( which I think so)

Infra is one major reason. Kerala had one of the older nursing colleges in India. The Government College of Nursing Thiruvananthapuram started before Independence. They were also the first to the start a Post-Basic BSc Nursing program, which was the first in South East Asia in the 60s.

The second major reason are the Syrian Christians. For them, nursing was an acceptable profession for women, and they did not have the social stigma due to caste-based notions of purity and pollution. Also, women opting to join a convent could continue to work and pray outside the confines of a institution. 

The third reason is the first mover advantage in migration, esp. to the Gulf and the West Europe and US. There also led to chain migration.

Plus, I do believe kerala Christian women genuinely want to help others.... probably some religious motivation ( I'm hindu....but was so amazed at how well they took care of my dad during his last days in alzhimer care)

Have you ever been to KL until late 2010s? 

Out of 365 days 329 days it’s some kind of bandh / strikes / hartal you name it.. 

These clowns had a full KL Bandh when Saddam Hussein was executed in Iraq! 

So basically, most men couldn’t work, and the only work with decent wages without studying too much or too long, was nursing… and nursing jobs have had been plenty in Middle East and West for long time. 

So basically a lot of them got into Nursing colleges, finished 2 year’s diploma and boom working either out of state (govt jobs) or abroad (ME or West). 

Of course Males in Nursing was rare or just out right not an option. 

So basically nurses carried the state’s economy for a long time while men organized and participated in Bandh!

There are no jobs in Kerala because it is a communist state. Factories are mostly suffering from hadtals.Missionaries also have a role to play in pushing nursing as career. If you see most nurses Kerala are christian mallus. Job guarantee provided at the time of conversation was fulfilled in gulf countries as nurses and caregivers.

Public health sector is under attack not by corporates but by the government itself promoting unscientific pseudoscientific alternative forms of medicine!
